Le verbe achopper se construit avec les prépositions à, sur ou contre :
- Il a achoppé à un obstacle imprévu.
- Les négociations achoppent sur un point de procédure.
- Le projet a achoppé contre la compression des budgets.
À la forme pronominale, achopper se construit avec à :
- s’achopper à une difficulté
L’emploi du verbe achopper sans complément n’est pas attesté. Au lieu de dire les négociations achoppent, on dira plutôt :
- les négociations sont dans l’impasse
