De façon générale, on brigue une chose que l’on cherche à obtenir :
- briguer un poste, un emploi, une fonction, un titre, une place, la présidence, une nomination
- briguer un mandat, un ministère, un siège, les votes, les suffrages, les honneurs, les voix
La tournure briguer une élection est une impropriété à éviter. On dit plutôt se présenter à une élection.
