C’est de qu’il convient d’employer pour introduire un nom de discipline sportive avec le mot compétition :
- compétition de ski (et non : compétition en ski)
- compétition d’athlétisme (et non : compétition en athlétisme)
La préposition de accompagne également des mots comme épreuve et championnat :
- épreuves de ski (et non : épreuves en ski)
- championnat de ski nautique (et non : championnat en ski nautique)
