Au singulier et précédé d’un possessif, le nom connaissance signifie « ce qu’on sait d’une matière » :
- Sa bonne connaissance du français devrait lui permettre d’obtenir l’emploi.
- Ma connaissance de la littérature était alors bien limitée.
Au pluriel, le nom connaissances s’applique à « des éléments précis de la connaissance » :
- Ses connaissances en français l’aident dans son travail.
- Mes connaissances en astrologie ne surpasseront jamais les tiennes.
