Pour désigner le bâtonnet dont les deux extrémités sont recouvertes de ouate, on peut employer coton-tige, qui a différentes graphies, ou d’autres noms :
- coton-tige
- Coton-Tige (marque déposée)
- écouvillon
- porte-coton
- tige montée
Au pluriel, on peut écrire :
- des cotons-tiges (privilégié)
- des coton-tige
Certains considèrent l’emploi de Coton-Tige comme abusif.
De plus, il faut éviter d’employer la marque déposée Q tip.
