Si le verbe a le sens général de « mêler un liquide à un autre liquide », il est suivi d’un complément indiquant de quel liquide il s’agit :
- couper du vin rouge avec du vin blanc
- couper son vin avec une boisson gazeuse
- le champagne coupé de jus d’orange
