Le mot diesel, parfois écrit diésel, désigne un moteur à combustion interne ou un véhicule équipé de ce genre de moteur. Il vient du nom de l’inventeur Diesel, mais il est aujourd’hui considéré comme un nom commun variable :
- des diesels économiques
- des camions diesels
Il est de moins en moins employé comme nom propre :
- des camions Diesel
