Doubler une classe et redoubler une classe, c’est rester deux ans de suite dans la même classe :
- Il a redoublé sa troisième année.
On dit aujourd’hui plus souvent redoubler que doubler. On peut dire redoubler tout court.
On appelle redoublant ou redoublante l’élève qui redouble une classe.
Le nom doubleur dans ce sens est vieilli.
