On peut s’engager envers une personne, physique ou morale, mais non envers une chose, et il est admis d’employer, outre envers, les locutions à l’égard de et vis-à-vis de.
- S’engager à l’égard d’un parti.
- Il rejetait la proposition qu’on lui soumettait, car elle l’engageait trop vis-à-vis de ses supérieurs.
