La construction éviter quelque chose à quelqu’un, qui a déjà été condamnée, est tout à fait correcte.
Il y a plus de deux siècles que la construction du verbe éviter se calque sur celle d’épargner :
- Je compte bien vous épargner/éviter ces tracas.
- Je lui épargnerai/ferai éviter/éviterai le détour.
- Vous m’éviterez une course. (Flaubert)
- Nous mettons tout en œuvre pour éviter à nos parents de souffrir. (Le Point)
