Le nom octroi est une impropriété au sens de « subvention », de « somme concédée, donnée ». On dit :
- L’organisme a reçu une subvention de 10 000 dollars. (et non : L’organisme a reçu un octroi de 10 000 dollars.)
Cependant, octroi s’emploie dans le sens d’« action d’octroyer », c’est-à-dire de « concéder, consentir une somme » :
- Le gouvernement a approuvé l’octroi de 20 000 dollars à cet organisme.
