Le nom probation est à éviter dans le sens de « période d’essai ».
On dit plutôt stage ou période d’essai :
- Toute nomination s’assortit d’une période d’essai de six mois.
Le mot probation est employé dans le domaine du droit pénal. Il désigne la mise en liberté provisoire d’un condamné pendant laquelle il est mis à l’épreuve :
- période de probation
- être en probation
