On omet l’article devant les dénominations sociales qui commencent par un nom propre, un mot inventé ou une expression formée d’éléments composés ou juxtaposés. On écrit donc :
- Eaton a déposé son bilan.
- Birks vend de très beaux colliers de perles.
- C’est une nouveauté d’Alcan.
- Hydro-Québec a augmenté ses tarifs.
Les raisons sociales Alcan et Hydro-Québec sont du genre féminin, le terme société étant sous-entendu.
Raison sociale étrangère
Les noms d’entreprises, de sociétés et d’organismes étrangers se composent en caractères romains :
- la General Motors
- l’American Legion
- le Foreign Office
- la Banco di Roma
