Sous l’influence de l’anglais, on entend parfois l’expression maintenir des relations, mais il s’agit d’un anglicisme. En français, on dit plutôt entretenir des relations.
Maintenir, en français, c’est conserver dans un même état, empêcher de bouger, tenir dans une même position :
- maintenir le statu quo
- maintenir une tradition
- maintenir l’ordre
- maintenir ses accusations
- maintenir une personne en vie
- maintenir un bateau à la surface
