Dans la plupart des cas, le tour service de, quand il entre dans la composition d’un nom d’entité administrative, peut être suivi ou non de l’article :
- le Service d’aide médicale
- un service de publicité
- le service de la vente d’un grand établissement
- les Services des transports
Certains usages sont cependant fixés. On dit :
- service de l’exploitation (et non : service d’exploitation)
- service du matériel (et non : service de matériel)
- service des réclamations (et non : service de réclamations)
mais :
- service de santé
- service d’ordre
