The noun cast refers to the participants or actors in a play, movie or other performance.

  • In a Cirque du Soleil production, changes in the cast occur frequently.

Cast can also be used as a verb.

  • Colm Feore was cast in the lead role in the Shakespearean play.

The noun caste refers to a social class.

  • DNA testing shows that India’s caste system is approximately 2000 years old.
