first two, two first

Use the first two (three, four, etc.), rather than the two first.

  • The first two lines of Robert Service’s “The Cremation of Sam McGee” are often quoted, but not many people memorize the entire poem.
  • The first two to scale the cliff in the allotted time were Jack and Jill.
